Physical Health

MRD provided training and consultancy advice for a leading functional restoration/physiotherapy organisation. They were keen to build on the success of their rehabilitation service by developing the 'psychosocial' element of their programme.
A literature review was carried out to determine best practise in the field and to identify suitable screening tools for measurement of key pain related psychological factors. On the basis of the review, a large scale training programme was developed to enable physiotherapists to communicate more effectively with their patients. A mentoring programme was subsequently set up to 'top up' their skills and to quality assure the training programme.

Mental Health

Dr Julie Denning was approached to design a mental health service for a large utilities organisation that wanted to support their staff to return or remain at work, who were experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems. The service design involved a complex case management process and referral to cognitive behavioural services for treatment. Results to date show improvements in mental health and successful return to work for the majority of patients coming through the service. The service is currently shortlisted for the Rehabilitation First Awards 2011.
